The Main Forms of Roller Bearing Failure

When we are using bearings,there are some problems occurs without appropriate install,using or maintain,the following are some forms of roller bearing failure:     

1. Fatigue flaking

The inner and outer raceway of rolling bearing and the surface of rolling body both bear the load and roll relatively. Due to the action of alternating load, cracks are formed at a certain depth under the surface (the maximum shear stress), and then spread to the contact surface, leading to the occurrence of spalling pits on the surface layer, and finally develop to a large scale of spalling. This phenomenon is fatigue spalling.Fatigue spalling can aggravate the impact load, vibration and noise during operation.

2. Wear

Due to the invasion of dust and foreign matter, the relative movement of raceway and rolling body will cause surface wear, and poor lubrication will also aggravate wear. 3. Plastic deformation

Dents or scratches may form on the raceway surface when the bearing is subjected to excessive impact load or static load, or when additional loads are caused by thermal deformation, or when foreign matter of high hardness invades the bearing.This will cause the bearing in the running process to produce violent vibration and noise.And once the indentation occurs, the impact load caused by the indentation will further cause the nearby surface to flake off.

4.Corrosion

Corrosion is one of the most serious problems of rolling bearings. High-precision bearings may be unable to continue working due to surface corrosion.Direct invasion of water or acid or alkaline substances will cause bearing rust.When the bearing stops working, the bearing temperature drops to the dew point, the condensation of moisture in the air into water droplets attached to the bearing surface will also cause corrosion.In addition, when the bearing internal current through, the current may be through the racetrack and the rolling body on the contact point, very thin oil film caused by electric spark and electrical erosion, on the surface to form a washboard-shaped uneven.

5. The fracture

6. Glue

Under the condition of poor lubrication and high speed and heavy load, the bearing parts can reach a very high temperature in a very short time due to friction heating, resulting in surface burns and gluing.The so-called glue refers to the phenomenon that the metal on the surface of one part adheres to the surface of another part.

7. Cage damage

Improper assembly or use may cause deformation of the cage, increase the friction between it and the rolling body, or even make some rolling body stuck and unable to roll, and may cause friction between the cage and the inner and outer rings.This damage will further aggravate vibration, noise and heat, resulting in bearing damage.
